Page View
A page view occurs when a browser loads a page of your website, or it can be defined as the total number of views a website or webpage receives within a specific timeframe. It differs from page visits, as a single visit to a page can result in multiple page views if a visitor navigates through multiple pages on your site.
Page views are significant because they provide a straightforward metric for understanding engagement and can be easily calculated. They do not differentiate between new visits and returning visits, allowing websites to maintain visitor privacy while still monitoring site usage.
Distinguishing Page Views from Unique Page Views:
Page views represent instances of pages being loaded or reloaded in a browser, reflecting the total number of pages viewed. Unique page views, on the other hand, tally the total number of sessions during which a specific page was viewed at least once. A unique page view is counted for each combination of page URL and page title.
For example, if a visitor navigates to an eCommerce website and views a product category page, then proceeds to browse a specific product page and revisits the same product page during the same session, that product page will register two page views within that session. However, only one unique page view will be recorded for that product page during the session, as it was viewed by the same visitor within the same session.
